I write songs about real life—the funny parts, the hard parts, the things people think but don’t always say out loud.
My music is rooted in country, but I’m not interested in staying inside one lane. I like mixing country with Southern rock, blues, soul, humor, and a little swagger to create songs with memorable characters and stories people can see in their heads.
Some songs are meant to make you laugh. Some are meant to make you think. Others might hit a little closer to home. But whether the story is serious, sentimental, outrageous, or just plain fun, I want every song to have personality and something worth remembering.
I especially enjoy taking an ordinary phrase, situation, or character and asking, “What if there was a song hiding in that?”
That approach has led to songs ranging from the gritty real-life message of “Life Ain’t a Slogan,” to the playful country attitude of “Dammit Boy,” to the unapologetic confidence and humor of “She Thinks She’s Sexy.”
I don’t believe every song has to sound the same just because it came from the same songwriter. The story should decide what the music becomes.
